Weltner’s Antiques & Art , LLC is an eclectic collection of antiques and art with a nautical flair. Weltner’s is located in the heart of Essex Village at 6 Ferry Street, just opposite the Griswold Inn. Proprietor Paul Weltner Gills is the third generation to carry on his family tradition of dealing with antiques.
The shop offers a wide variety of vintage objects mingled with the work of local artists, nautical themed items like ship models, bells and wheels, maritime lights, portholes, oars and paddles, mixed with rustic furniture, shelves of collectible glassware, porcelain teacups, pottery, period kitchenware and tools, old books, photos and postcards.
Curious, colorful, one-of-a kind birdhouses made by Gills himself dot the shop and delight the eye. Gills, also known as the Birdman of Essex, crafts the birdhouses from old barn wood, reclaimed furniture, driftwood, and antique hardware.
The shop also features reclaimed and recycled products that include furniture made from antique barn wood, sail bags crafted from recycled sails, and doormats made from recycled fishermen’s rope.
When you are in the Essex area, be sure to stop in. There is something for everyone and browsers are welcome.
